Dolls have played an important role in the life of the Japanese children. Kimekomi-Ningyo is one of the most popular dolls created by carving lines in wood made from solidifying wooden powder with starch, and inserting kimono cloth into the lines. The doll is handmade in the time-honored fashion, some hundred steps are involved in producing one doll.

Tools Required:
Please bring the following materials to the first class:
1) Small sharp scissors (cuticle or small craft)
2) #150 course and #240 fine sand paper
3) Wet cloth for cleaning hands & tools

CLASS 1:
a) Selection of doll
b) introduction to a fabric used
c) introduction to tools used
d) Begin preparing body (sanding, filling, reconstruction if necessary)

CLASS 2:
a) Final Preperation of doll body
b) Instruction on use of tucking and carving tools
c) Use of pattern (when necessary)

CLASS 3:
a) Proper handling of special material and glue
b) Care and placement of fabric on doll
c) Handling of golden brocade (when part of kit)

CLASS 4 :
a) Making Tamabuchi
b) Placement of head and hands
c) Placement and explanation of accessories
d) Completion of doll
